For foster carers writing daily logs and social workers writing case records

Every daily log and case note becomes part of a child's story. One day, that child may sit down and read it. In this course, you'll learn how to write records that are accurate, fair and respectful, and that help Black and global majority children recognise themselves.

This interactive e-learning course has 6 short modules:

• Module 1: Records That Will Be Read
• Module 2: Facts, Opinions and Context
• Module 3: Loaded Language and Bias
• Module 4: Recording Culture and Identity
• Module 5: Data Protection and Confidentiality
• Module 6: Before and After: Rewriting

It includes narration, practical scenarios and a final quiz of 12 questions (80% pass mark). You can learn at your own pace on any device, and you'll receive a certificate when you complete the course.

What will i learn?

• Explain who reads children's records, including care leavers years later
• Separate fact, opinion and third-party information in your writing
• Recognise loaded language and how bias can shape what is written about Black children
• Record culture and identity positively, specifically and in the child's own words
• Apply the basics of UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and confidentiality
• Rewrite a record so it is factual, fair and respectful
