For foster carers and supervising social workers of Black and global majority children and teenagers

For many children and teenagers, social media is where they learn about the world, and about themselves. For Black and global majority children, it can be a place of pride and connection, and also a place where they meet racism. In this course, you'll learn how to help the children in your care thrive online.

This interactive e-learning course has 5 short modules:

• Module 1: Social Media and Identity
• Module 2: Online Racism Beyond School
• Module 3: Talking and Curating Together
• Module 4: Privacy and Safety in Care
• Module 5: Reporting and the Law

It includes narration, practical scenarios and a final quiz of 12 questions (80% pass mark). You can learn at your own pace on any device, and you'll receive a certificate when you complete the course.

What will i learn?

• Explain how feeds, filters and algorithms shape a child's self-image
• Recognise colourism, texturism and the value of positive online role models
• Recognise online racism and its impact, including seeing racist violence
• Talk with children about what they see and help them curate a positive feed
• Protect the privacy and safety of children in care online
• Save evidence and use the right reporting routes, and know what the Online Safety Act does
