Supporting children's faith, and carers of faith: for foster carers and social workers

For many children, faith is part of who they are: how their family prays, what they eat, how they wear their hair, and where they feel they belong. For others, it's no religion at all. And many foster carers draw strength from their own faith. In this course, we'll look at how to honour all of this, fairly and warmly.

This interactive e-learning course has 5 short modules:

• Module 1: Faith, the Law and Your Role
• Module 2: Faith in Everyday Family Life
• Module 3: Children Finding Their Own Way
• Module 4: Carers of Faith
• Module 5: Community, Recruitment and Safety

It includes narration, practical scenarios and a final quiz of 12 questions (80% pass mark). You can learn at your own pace on any device, and you'll receive a certificate when you complete the course.

What will i learn?

• Explain the law and standards on a looked-after child's religion
• Support worship, food rules, fasting, festivals, dress and hair across faiths
• Respect children who are exploring faith, or who choose not to practise
• Share family life as a carer of faith without imposing or pressuring
• Draw on faith communities for support and for recruiting carers
• Recognise abuse linked to faith or belief, without stigmatising faith
